Omega has released its co-axial calibre 8508 which it claims to be the world's leading anti-magnetic movement. What makes it unique is the the use of selected non-ferrous materials in the movement itself without the use of a protective case. This allows the movement to be viewed through a see-through display back.
Several patents are pending for the new movement. The prototype (shown above) has been fitted in an Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra.
Magnets are prevalent in daily lives and they are always a threat to the performance of mechanical movements. The new movement was exposed to higher levels of magnetism (15,000 gauss) than any other watch and it continued to perform as hoped.
The watch will officially be previewed at Baselworld 2013 in April and will be available for purchase later in 2013. No details on pricing were announced.
