Why Swiss Watches Are Becoming More Expensive

In a recent post, we discussed how the Swiss franc is up 25 percent in 2011 against the US dollar forcing watch manufacturers to raise prices. But as you can see below, this trend isn't new. In early 2007, 1 US dollar got you 1.24 francs back but by August 2011, 1 US dollar only meant 0.73 francs.

The Swiss National Bank (SNB) took some measures against the franc's continued rise in recent weeks and the US dollar has bounced back a little but it remains to be seen whether this is the start of a trend or a statistical blip. In the meantime, watch prices are on the rise.
