Birmingham Mayor Accused of Accepting Bribes, Rolex

Birmingham, Alabama Mayor Larry Langford (pictured left), could be turfed out of office and sent to prison if he's convicted of bribes from alleged political cronies totaling $235,000. The feds charge that these gifts included a Rolex watch and other expensive jewerly.

The trial, set to begin in December, adds to the growing burdens of Alabama's most populous city. Birmingham is drowning in debt from a complex overhaul to its antiquated municipal sewer system and is on the brink of filing what would be the largest municipal bankruptcy in U.S. history, experts say.
