The Amateur Economist has an interesting post about how many new Swiss watch companies are:
"dredging up old names of anyone even remotely connected to Swiss watchmaking history, then launching a new modern brand... This is pure marketing, as the appropriation of these prestigious names immediately gives their new owners... historical legitimacy."
