5 Tips for Keeping Your Swiss Watch ‘Healthy’

If you got a new Swiss watch for the holidays, congratulations. Here's a few tips to keep it in tip-top shape for years to come:

  1. Clean your watch regularly. Use an old, soft toothbrush or a toothpick and a slightly damp cloth to gently scrub away debris. Alternatively, you can take it into a jeweler's store and have it cleaned ultrasonically.
  2. Replace broken or badly scratched crystals before dust and moisture has a chance to damage the movement.
  3. Keep an eye on the watch bracelet or strap to make sure it is secured to the dial.
  4. If you have a mechanical watch, make sure it is serviced regularly (usually 3 to 5 years) to maintain adequate lubrication between the moving parts.
  5. If your watch isn't water resistant, be careful not to expose the case directly to water.
